Nose and Sinus

Sinus surgery – our surgeons are trained in all aspects of basic and advanced Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. Many conditions that previously required open surgery (performed through an external incision on the face) can now be done endoscopically (ie using small telescopes and instruments inserted through the nostril). Another recent advance means there is usually no packing that needs to be removed after surgery as materials now used are biodegradable and will disintegrate with saline washes in the few weeks after surgery. Most of our patients find this type of surgery quite tolerable with minimal pain that is easily managed with their post-operative analegics.

Septoplasty – deviated nasal septums are very common and not all require surgery, however if nasal congestion does not improve adequately with sprays then surgery can be considered. This is often combined with turbinoplasty which reduces the size of the lower turbinates, while preserving the function of the mucosal lining and helping restore the nasal airway. Often this will be the first step in surgical management of snoring and/or sleep apnoea.
